I owned a 96 900SS CR as my first bike and learned how to ride on it. I moved up to a 748 and learned the finer things in riding. I then sold it and bought myself a 2003 749 and was not happy with it. Now I'm having the 848 itch. I didnt like the way the 749 handled compared to the 748, Is there a big difference between the 748 and the 848 in regards to handling? I hated the riding position of that 748 but the handling made up for it. The 749 was a nice bike but I felt it was too technologically advanced compared to the 748. Can anyone share there experinces on the 848 when compared to the 748? Thanks

Too technologically advanced? Is there such a thing for a sportsbike?

The 749/999 "can" handle great, if setup properly. I think a lot of people assume you can buy a bike and it works great out of the box. In the past, that wasn't the case. The 848 is light-years better then the 749 out of the box, but takes far more work to be near the stability level of a relatively stock later model 749/999.

The 848 is lighter, the wheels are lighter as well. So it has a pretty good time steering around, compared to a 749, thats just small differences. Where the bigger differences lie is within the chassis and the flex. The 848/1098 flexes less then the 749/999 and henceforth is a slightly better bike then the older ones.
