Agree that replacing the yoke is a much safer option.

Another way forward, at the expense of using two sets of forks: I had SBK internals inserted into my ST3 upper tubes. SBK lower tubes used - that method enables retention of the standard top and bottom yokes and steering lock functionality. As part of this I believe the 996 forks top caps, complete of course with the damping adjuster, were inserted into my ST3 top tubes - I did not do the work.
