Anybody know if the fork cap threads are the same for ST and Superbike fork caps? Is the id of the forks the same?
Just thinking about machining the upper end of superbike fork tubes down to 50mm rather than opening up the triple clamp to 53mm. Just a thought, maybe somebody already knows the answer.:)

Almost certainly the forks are not compatible. I dont have a set in pieces now to measure but I have never thought that there was excess meat on the fork SBK tubes.

Taking 1.5mm off the wall thickness of such a highly stressed part doesn't seem too good an idea to me.

Why not just fit the appropriate yokes and cut out the machining altogether?

Mark.

Dan,

Agree that replacing the yoke is a much safer option.

Another way forward, at the expense of using two sets of forks: I had SBK internals inserted into my ST3 upper tubes. SBK lower tubes used - that method enables retention of the standard top and bottom yokes and steering lock functionality. As part of this I believe the 996 forks top caps, complete of course with the damping adjuster, were inserted into my ST3 top tubes - I did not do the work.

Check other threads about this stuff - e.g. http://www.ducati.ms/forums/showthread.php?t=21140 and http://www.ducati.ms/forums/showthread.php?t=21610

Suggest you contact Cogent Dynamics (NCRick) or GP Suspension for local advice - they should know.

..that great bike of yours deserves the best!

cheers,

Dave
