OK so here's the deal.

I have a 2001 748S. I just installed a Termi 45/50 system. I also happen to have a FIM UM211 chip and a PCIII...but I'm a total idiot when it comes to understanding the fuel mapping. So, can one of you experts tell me...should I install just the UM211, just the PCIII or both? What are the advantages, disadvanatges, issues (is there a risk of harming the motor with the combo), etc. Should I try to get a different chip (I saw a UM091 on ebay today). Also, I guess I need to go somewhere and get a dyno-tuned done also? Since this is primarily a street bike, I'm looking to have a smooth, linear throttle response rather than just peak HP. Finally assuming I'm in one of the scenarios with the PCIII, what map should I be running. Any comments or advice is appreciated.

THANKS.

a drop in map (chip or downloaded map for pc3) will never be as good as a custom map. they may get you close or better than nothing but a custom map (from a reputable tuner!) is the way to go if you really want your bike to run at it's best. with that said, unless you know someone that can burn you a custom chip and tune ignition as well as fuel, install the pc3 and have it custom mapped. you could probably sell the fim chip and pay for most of it.

i am running both, the FIM chip is there for the higher rpm limit only. the PCIII has a custom map and runs perfectly. as far as the PCIII is concerned, it doesn't care what chip is installed as it will override any installed chip with it's own settings (canned or custom). as the FIM chips come they're pretty good, providing your mods fit the chip, ie mufflers and filter. to get the fuelling spot on a dyno tune is necessary with either, and in my opinion well worth it.

If you decide not to go to the dyno = Go with only the FIM chip you have

If you decide you want to dyno = bring both chips for a baserun and see which is better to start mapping from.

A custom PC3 map will always be better then a "general" map burned from a "similar" bike. This is true both for the FIM-chip map or any map downloaded from the powercommander homepage and uploaded into your PC3.

The best thing to use the powercommander "ready" maps for is to get an idea where to start when making a custom map for your bike.
