I need a recommendation for a good quality place to coat my exhaust and Termis black. I would prefer someone in the tri-state NY/NJ/CT area but will send the parts to a place who provides a good quality long lasting matte black coating.

Thanks

I all you want is a coating in black, then you can just paint them with high temperature exhaust paint. Jet Hot sells a black coating also. If you want a coating that actually does something, then I'd be looking at Swain Tech's White Lightning product.

I would recommend this company…

On the website you can search for an applier in your area!

The quality of the coating is amazing and can not be compared with paint or plating…
I have not heard about them. The coating looks pretty at least. Their product goes on very thin, so it can't provide much thermal insulation. White Lightning goes on relatively thick, 15 thousandths vs about 2 thousandths for the others.

I have no relationship with them, but I intend to use them in the near future. I figure a motorcycle exhaust is subject to a lot of cooling air flow and therefore would benefit more than a car does from exhaust coating to keep the heat in the pipe.

Jet Hot has a location in PA that you might look at. They also have dealers at a bunch of locations. Thier web site could be easier to navigate.

HPC, which Motowheels uses, is recognized as one of the leaders in several types of coatings including friction reduction and temperature control. That they look awesome does not mean they are all show, no go. The biggest benefit is in the materials they use, and the performance gains you can realize.

EDIT: Like Dirkwright mentioned, Swaintech also has a very good reputation.

Advice: before you send anything to any of these companies, talk it through with them first. Understand what you're looking for, and talk with thei reps about which product is best for you. Each of these companies offers a variety of coatings, and not every coating is right for each application. That sounds pretty elementary, but you'd be surprised at how often people are dissatisfied because they did not talk through the process first. Just my $.02

Thanks for all of the quick responses!

For the record I originally had my pipes and cans ceramic coated when the bike was new (in April this year). Now they are beginning to discolor and even flake in some spots which should never happen with a proper coating.

I want something that is both durable as well as functional. I just don't know who to trust in doing this on a cold call basis.

I have heard of Jet Hot...has anyone had a personal experience with them? I will also look into Motowheels as well. I just want to find something that works.

For the record: You would use MotoWheels source for their coating, vs. you sending your items to MotoWheels, to send off to another place.

MotoWheels stated WHO they tend to go with (I'd assume for their customers / pers. preference around the shop). I'm sure they'll chime in.

In either case, I'd def. stick to a place somewhat local if possible if shipping costs might be an issue for you. While you want to re-coat the exhaust system for a good reason, you prolly don't want to dunk a bunch of $$ just for the sake of cosmetics.

When all is said, hook-up some pics. It's always nice to see improvements.

Good luck bud.

Jet Hot is definitely good. It's an extremely tough finish and really does reduce temperature on the outside of the exhaust. I had the Mississippi location do the Jet Hot 2000 coating in flat black on my 2 in 1 Termis and it turned out great, sort of a black crackle finish.

A word of advice: tape off all your connection surfaces of the various exhaust pieces and the inside of your silencer. Despite what Jet Hot told me (that they would tape these surfaces themselves) they managed to coat all these surfaces, which made putting the pieces together impossible. Had a hell of a time getting the connection surfaces ground down so they would fit. Jet Hot is pretty tough stuff.

Thanks guys for the great advice.

I actually have contacted both Swain and a local Jet Hot coater about the pipes and termis. While Swain may be the "best" in terms of performance (heat dispersion) Jet Hot may offer more in terms of finishes. I'm leaning towards Jet Hot but will share the final with some pics when done.

Thanks again!
