Well we got close anyway, as close as I dared without a certain crash.
When the 30% chance of rain turned to a rain/hail storm at a very technical section, I decided to turn back...and go down the wet, rocky, rain slick mountain....on my Pirelli Scorpions Trails. I love these tires, but got in a wee over their heads again. We were 1000 miles from home on the jagged sharp rock trails, thank the Ducati gods for the ABS, never would have made it down crash-free without it. It was buzzing most of the way, but worked perfectly (the front of course, the rear is still worthless). Yeah I was lucky. The bike was much more at home on the National Park roads/trails, and on the mountain twisties where it really shined.
