Does anyone know if the '98 ST2 stator fits in the 900SS case (mine is a '95)? I think this would be a great way to get a little more robustness from the electrical systems on these bikes-if it will fit.

Hi,
The bikes with the later 3phase generators have a differnt crank and use a differnt motor side cover. So, it can be done. You will need to invest alot of time and money to do it though.
On a side note there are some people out there making mosfett regulators for the older 2phase bikes. The mosfett reg is supposed to be a big improvement in reliability. The gererators are relatively reliable and very rarely cause problems.

If I remember correctly, the standard single phase stators were 350 watt output. But the '97-'98 ST2 was single phase, but had a 420 watt output. In theory, the crankshaft is the same, so it would just be an issue of the case.
