Hey all, not sure if this is the right spot, but here goes.

I'll be flying into LA from Australia on the 11th of July and the road tripping to LV, Yosemite, Tahoe, Napa, San fran and ending in Monterey for the MotoGp which happens to fall on my birthday.

I'd like to know of any hang out spots where I can see nice bikes. Shopping for any Ducati stuff. Also what is the best day and area of Mulholland to check out you crazy riders?
I would dearly love to see and hear an 1199. I've sat on one here, but I don't think too many have taken delivery as yet.

Any help would be appreciated.

Oh, where is the best hang out at night pre or during MotoGp? Wonder if we can do any rider spotting? Failing that, we have our Ducati Island spots booked!

See bikes: Rock Store. Great dealer: Pro Italia. Mulholland (or Angeles Crest Trail), weekend mid-day.

I'd skip Mulholland altogether and drive up Angeles Crest HWY (2) to Newcombs Ranch on Sunday morning, schedule permitting of course.

Safe travels and enjoy your time here.

Once you get to the Monterey area, you must make time to visit Alice's, on Skyline Drive north of Santa Cruz, for lunch. A prime spot for gawking at bikes, especially on race weekend. :)

Hey you should stop through Santa Barbara on your way up the coast..

Our local Ducati dealer has a beautiful D16 desmo, and a few 1199's. One of the panigal is the tricolore with a nice bit of carbon.. Also we have some world class riding roads around these parts, there's a great twisting mountain road that leads from the coast back for about 1.5 hours, and it's all corner after flowing medium/high speed corners.

I made this video of me going from SB, up the coast to big sur. The fast riding roads are in the second video, but this one shows some cool shots of the area.

Here's some of the roads around SB and the area

And here's Muholland from the coast going in towards the hills.

This video was my first time ever riding this road, so I did not know what to expect.

Thanks for the replies so far. We'll only have Saturday and monday morning free in LA, as we then drive to LV.
We still haven't booked any accommodation for Tahoe (can't decide North or South) and Napa. I'd love to hire a tractor...I mean Harley to ride around Tahoe but Reno is too far to collect a bike for a day ride.

Any suggestions on good spots to stay? or if I can get a bike right on the lake.

I say hit Pro Italia first thing Saturday morning. Snag a rental. Run Angeles Crest from Pro Italia to Wrightwood and back. Get lunch at Newcombs on the way down. Buy a T-shirt and gawk at a Panigale as you return the bike.

Done by 1:00pm or so.

Tahoe destination hinges a bit on your aptitude for gambling. If gaming is part of the itinerary stay S Tahoe, but N Tahoe is much more scenic and has only couple casinos. Hyatt Regency in N Tahoe nice, if camping shoot for Sugar Pine Point state park, the lake is right across the street. SPP state park is smack in the middle on West Shore - premium Tahoe grounds

I would say.....contact dave @ rentaducati.com , rent the panigale, pick it up early saturday morning at beachmoto (revit dealer, greatttt gear and greater service), go to crest highway, make it to newcombs for lunch, come back down and cruise the pch all the way to neptune's net. From there you can go return the bike, or if you are fine, ride to the rock store through some canyon road, and ride some of mullholland hwy, them keep the bike ans return it early the next morning.
If you really want ducati apparel, such as t shirts, order it online at proitalia and go pick it up as you ride down crest highway (it is very nearby), since sometimes what you want is nit in stock.

After that, contact a good shrink for a dose of strong anti depressants! Those roads are great and should be even better aboard a new panigale!

I agree with suggestion of skipping Mulholland. If you stop by my shop, you can rent Panigale and take it for nice ride on HWY 2 :)

Thanks for the tips guys. At this stage we'll have Saturday free to do what ever and up to mid afternoon before we set off to LV.

We ended up going with South Lake Tahoe and don't ban me :p we're going to hire a Harley for a day so we can do the lake trip.
Yeah, I hear ya! But when in the US do as they do? Nah, seriously I have a coupld close mates with Harleys and I refuse to ride them so why not ride a Harley Ferguson in the country they come from...

I'll try and get to BeachMoto to check the place out, maybe I can hire the 1199 for an hour just to experience it. I'd love to hire it for longer put it's hard enough for my wife to pillion on my 1098, so she went and got her own bike! Haven't seen one on the road here yet!

Well guys, we're now getting ready to leave Vegas for mammoth lakes Saturday night and then two nights in lake Tahoe south.
We were a bit pressed for time in LA, but managed to stop by New Port Ducati/Triumph, but they didn't have a tee my size :(
We did do part of mullholand, but I suspect we went the wrong direction as we saw hardly a bike and the surface was crap!
Any way, looking forward to seeing more and the GP of course!
Btw the bike shops in LV aren't very good, all I want is a nice pair of shorty boots for summer. Where can I go in San Fran? D store, anywhere else for other brands?
