Ducati Performance Paddock Stand disappointment

When I bought my Agusta F4, I opted for a local Australian (Anderson) rear paddock stand, and I was very happy with the build quality.

When I bought the V2 Panigale, I thought I'd just get the Ducati Performance stand, which was roughly the same price as the Anderson, and since I was already at the dealers, why not buy genuine.

However, when I took it home and unboxed it, I was bitterly disappointed with how bad the welds were on it.

Poor welds can fatigue over time, or stress crack. In comparison, the Anderson's welds have the perfect leg length & throat thickness and are full complete welds (see pics).

The red flag for me was the weld spatter. They hadn't used the correct amps/voltage settings, or perhaps the material wasn't clean, or they used cheap welding consumables. To me, it's the sign of a poor welder, or shonky contractor (depending on where they are made).

I'm not too concerned once the bike is sitting up on the stand, because of the location of the poor/incomplete welds and the direction/axis of the load. It's the constant lifting the bike on and off that concerns me, as the loads act in multiple directions. There's torsional and bending stresses.

I contacted the dealer and asked if Ducati guarantee the performance of their stands. The dealer informed me that if I wasn't happy, I could return it. But they didn't answer my question.

Has anyone else had this issue with Ducati paddock stands? Am I overreacting, or has someone out there genuinely had a stand fail or snap on them?

Hey, Pitbull fanboys, he's already said the shipping cost to him would just about double the price of the stand so he's not doing it. Stop beating a dead horse.

Gee-tech stands are a 10/10. They are used by BSB teams. I don’t know if shipping will kill it for you though.

I understand your questioning the quality control--But If it says Ducati on it quality control goes out the window lol. --They offered to take it back & refund the stand, with the way you feel about it just take it back & order a PitBull stand or another brand that you are happy with --Because you will never be happy with this one.--I doubt it will ever fail but you will always question it so for your piece of mind take it back & get the refund. You will sleep better at night.
100% agree. I am taking it back.

🤣 All good 😂.

I mean, the Pitbull stands must be great though!! And it's been a while since I've looked for one, so maybe someone's now importing to Australia.

Or I'll just fork out $$$ and get the front & rear Dynamoto set, so I can wheel it around my garage safely.

Oh wow, those Dynamoto wheels are ingenious! Screw Pit Bull, get a set of those, you’re even supporting a local (…ish. Globally speaking.) business!

Dynamoto stands are great, but keep in mind that the front stand does not lift the wheel off the ground. Consequently, the front stand can’t be used for most maintenance jobs or tire warmers. Also, the stands are big and heavy so they can’t really be used outside of one’s garage.

I don’t think it will break. Personally I like handmade flaws. Gives it personality.

Welding being the same, tube wall thickness is the decider. Pitbull all the way. Try "Street and Competition Cycle" in the US for prompt reasonable shipping.

I really wanted these, so I could wheel the bike around my garage, but the rear alone was $550 AUD.

I’ve purchased the Dynamoto stands. I know they are not cheap but I couldn’t be happier with them. They look fantastic, they are very mobile and way they can go in any direction and the guy at Dynamoto is very helpful. They are also made in Australia which is a bonus for me.

Yes, the front stand is more of a skate, but I just love the idea of being able to set my bike on both stands and wheel it into position in the corner safely. If you see how I position my bikes, these would be so useful.

I agree, they look fantastic and so easy to use... and it's also a plus for me to support Aussie!

Update: The dealer wouldn't refund my money for the stand. They would only give me an in store credit. Since I still needed a stand, and I didn't want the Ducati Performance again, they had two other brands. One was mid range, complete welds, sturdy, larger wheels, and it was one piece. The other was also quite sturdy, good welds, but small fragile wheels. I went for the mid range stand, and with the money I saved I bought a nice Ducati cover. Not exactly the stand I wanted, but it ticks most boxes. All in all, I'm happy I returned the Ducati stand, but next time, I will not buy from the Dealer!

I'm with you - Anderson make a great stand. I've had mine for 23 years and have used it on my 848 for 15 years. I bought a Ducati stand for my V4 SP2 and it's nowhere near the quality.

Pitbull need an Australian rep !

Check out those DB Race mirrors by Daemon for your Bayliss. Beautiful quality, don't have to move my arm to check behind - they actually work. One of the best bike mods I've ever done ✌

Oh man, those DB Race mirrors look sweet, but $1000 for a pair? I'm looking at either vinyl wrapping my bike or the mirrors, but can't do both right now... the wife will kill me! 😂
