Ducati Performance Paddock Stand disappointment

When I bought my Agusta F4, I opted for a local Australian (Anderson) rear paddock stand, and I was very happy with the build quality.

When I bought the V2 Panigale, I thought I'd just get the Ducati Performance stand, which was roughly the same price as the Anderson, and since I was already at the dealers, why not buy genuine.

However, when I took it home and unboxed it, I was bitterly disappointed with how bad the welds were on it.

Poor welds can fatigue over time, or stress crack. In comparison, the Anderson's welds have the perfect leg length & throat thickness and are full complete welds (see pics).

The red flag for me was the weld spatter. They hadn't used the correct amps/voltage settings, or perhaps the material wasn't clean, or they used cheap welding consumables. To me, it's the sign of a poor welder, or shonky contractor (depending on where they are made).

I'm not too concerned once the bike is sitting up on the stand, because of the location of the poor/incomplete welds and the direction/axis of the load. It's the constant lifting the bike on and off that concerns me, as the loads act in multiple directions. There's torsional and bending stresses.

I contacted the dealer and asked if Ducati guarantee the performance of their stands. The dealer informed me that if I wasn't happy, I could return it. But they didn't answer my question.

Has anyone else had this issue with Ducati paddock stands? Am I overreacting, or has someone out there genuinely had a stand fail or snap on them?

It could be better. Looks on par with cheap china stands. I would not worry too much about the strength, but aesthetically it's not pretty.

With the correct technique, there is not much load when lifting the bike. You just need to keep the up and backwards momentum. Using the stand wrong and with bad technique any stand can brake!

I would take them up on their offer and return it. Get something that's more aesthetically pleasing and trustworthy.

Seeing these pictures, I'm glad that I went with a Pitbull stand.

I bought a pair of Venom stands (expecting inferior quality) and they are a much nicer product than what Andreaz got from Ducati. And I would imagine the one OEM stand was more than the pair of Venom.

I don't have the Ducati stands and didn't consider them for my V2 because of others with your experience. I use pitbull and it's fine. If you want to spend the max money but get the best stand then look at Pierobon. But I understand they are difficult to get.

I've actually tried to find Pitbull and no one at the time sold it in Australia, and shipping here from the US was as much as another stand!
I really wanted these, so I could wheel the bike around my garage, but the rear alone was $550 AUD.

That looks like a cheaply made stand for sure. I’m not a welder but even I can see that’s sh##y handiwork. Send it back.

if there is a Woodcraft distributor in Australia, check it out. Great quality and fair price. Highly recommend them.

(I have a Pitbull rear stand and it’s very, very nicely made. I have a Woodcraft front/triple-tree stand and it’s superb too. Costs a bit less than Pitbull but I can’t see any loss in quality.)

I bought one of these: https://www.xlmoto.com/product/proworks-single-arm-paddock-stand_pid-PP-092875

I would have bought the pitbull stand if it was available in Europe. I don't purchase from USA anymore because of the redicules long shipping time and shipping fees! It was much better a few years ago. The prices has been stupid the last few years. I would have paid stupid shipping fees for prompt delivery. But I'm losing my sanity for waiting 8 weeks on a product!

Just take it back--& purchase a PitBull stand --they are great & never an issue.

If going for the pitbull stand , you might want to get one with the removable handle. If not on a lift a definite trip hazard!
Had the same debate when I got my V2 earlier this year. Ended up going Pit Bull and the quality is top shelf.

Looks about on par with their welding on some of the earlier trellis frames lol.
Take it back and get another Anderson.

I believe you have every right to question the visual appearance of many of the welds on the Ducati stands but the only possible structurally poor weld(s) are the “spiders home” and possibly the void pictured before it. I highly doubt the stands could fail by what is shown in the pictures and the fact these stands hardly face strong forces and/or heavy weight. The engineer in me “feels” the Ducati brand would actually be stronger but there are so many variables in play that pictures make knowing impossible.

I have always used cheap eBay stands and the same set lasted me well until I got my current single sided swingarm bike, for what it’s worth. I most likely will get the “same” if I ever need one but the center stand has gotten me by so far.

i think you should keep the stand , clearly ducati were trying to make the welding on the stand match that of the motorcycle

I agree that the stand will "probably" not fail suddenly under these loads. I've factored in the location of the poor and incomplete welds. My concern is stress cracking and fatigue due to the completed welds having to do more work. Why not just complete them? Even the part that sits flush with the ground could do with a thin weld.

I've designed many things in my time and I expect everything I design to be as per my drawings... especially if they're load bearing. The product needs to have the weld throat thickness and leg length I've designed, and no defects. Otherwise my whole design is compromised. I guess part of the problem with being an engineer working on Navy warships is that I'm used to perfection. Our welders are all highly qualified, and they go through vigorous testing before they can lay a single weld on the ship. I get it, I'm probably over the top and overbearing for the Dealers, but if I pay $400 for a bit of tube welded together and powder coated, and it's holding up my $30k bike, I guess I want it to be pretty decent 😊

I understand your questioning the quality control--But If it says Ducati on it quality control goes out the window lol. --They offered to take it back & refund the stand, with the way you feel about it just take it back & order a PitBull stand or another brand that you are happy with --Because you will never be happy with this one.--I doubt it will ever fail but you will always question it so for your piece of mind take it back & get the refund. You will sleep better at night.
