I don't think this race is televised or recorded in any way but I wanted to post this with a spoiler alert just in-case someone has access to watch the race.
If there is some race coverage please let us know where we can find it.

Four vehicles broke the magical 10 minute barrier this year (due to the road now being paved to the top.)
In some ways it is the end of an era. This mountain race differed from others by being both paved and dirt and bringing a level of vehicle duality rarely seen outside of rally races (of course this is the nature of rally racing so I guess pp is no longer a rally race)
And, it is the start of a new type of race for the mountain bringing it closer to what we would expect from a European TT. But while the paving did bring higher speeds the times were not significantly lower overall.

I'm pretty excited to see that Ducati had two Multistradas finish in under 10 minutes and place 3rd and 4th overall. That is extremely impressive and sets new records for the mountain and for motorcycles.

Carlin Dunne - last years overall bike winner set a new record of 9:52.819
first in motorcycle and 3rd overall.

Last year Dunne came with his own bikes prepared by his own people, and won the event. I don't know what level of help received from Ducati if any at all.
I believe that this year he was a member of the Ducati Team. correct me if I'm wrong

Greg Tracy placed 2nd in motorcycle and 4th overall with a time of 9:58.262. Tracy came as a Ducati Team rider

There were road race bikes on the mountain this year for the first time but the MTS12 once again proved to dominate even with a fully paved course. The next quickest bike finished in the 11's.

Pretty cool, thanks for the news. My local mechanic built the Multi engines this year.:D
and that's even more cool! Thanks for the post up on the Peak BD.

That is one bad ass looking racer! :)

I was lucky to have rode to the top of PP last year on my Tiger 800 before they finished paving the road. There was still 3 miles left unpaved when I did it. Seems a shame they change the dynamics of the race forever with this, but I suppose it certainly is safer for everyday use.

I've seen it a couple times on speed but don't know too much about the different classes which do the race. Now that it's paved all the way up would it make more sense to use a more road race oriented bike instead of the multi? Maybe they are already doing that. Any other ducati models make the run?

That's what makes this victory so great for the Multistrada. Sportbikes took to the track this year and the MTS still destroyed the field.

The next fastest bike was an R1 running in the 11's. There are 8 motorcycle classes (including quad and sidecar) and there were about 95 entrants in the motorcycle classes.

When you take into account the total number of entrants was around 182 the times and the standings that the Multis were able to produce are astounding.

Even on the pavement the MTS proved to be the right style of bike for this race. - supermoto type handling with superbike power.

There were other Ducs on the mountain along with a couple of Harley XR1200's and KTM990, a BMW HP2, a GSXR and others

The R1 and the GSXR both did exceptionally well with times of 11:02 and 11:16 respectively. I think both of these guys are local MRA racers. I expect to see more sbk's in the future and I imagine that a world class TT racer could come in and destroy the records.

But for now Pikes Peak is not attracting many world class motorcycle racers.(Maybe it's too dangerous?) Most of the entrants are self-supported amateur racers. I think that's part of the reason why the Ducs did so well - professional racers with factory support.

How is it as a spectator event? I'd guess you get to see a lot of bikes / cars at the bottom but are there good spots to watch the Runs up? I'm not too far away sounds like it would be cool to go see sometime!

There are some pretty decent places to watch but of course you only get to see the entrants fly past you which is exciting but doesn't tell the whole story.
The problem most people have with watching pikes peak is that there is only one road so once the races start you are there for the day - no-one is allowed to move while the vehicles are racing.
And I wouldn't suggest you watch near the top - it's darn hard to breathe.
