I'm drilled out 95% of the case/engine mounting bolt so I can use 999/12mm bolts. There is 1" left that I can't reach with the bit that I'm using.

I know others have done this ....is there a longer but to use?

GOT IT. :D

My Grandad would make longer drills by the following method...

Get a short (6"? 4"?) length of 12mm bar, the same diameter as the drill you wish to make longer.... grind down the end of the bar to a slight taper, also the end of the drill?

The drill and the bar need to be EXACTLY in line with each other for the next bit - we did it by placing both in a Vee block or similar?

Mig, tig, arc whatever - get a few spot welds in either side to hold it all together, then fill in the taper with weld, working your way round...

You will now have a longer drill!

Set a slow drill speed and drill out that last 1", job done. ;)
