Diopa Imola style Seat, and bike back to Red

Well, my Diopa Imola seat finally arrived and after some messing around I've got it fitted.

The design and quality of the fibreglass unit is ok, ...not amazing, but definitely tough and fit for purpose, however, it's not quite paint ready with some small faults in the fibreglass, but most annoyingly, the hole for the rugged latch pin was off centre and too far back. I needed to remake a new hole 4mm back and 4mm over to the centre line. To underline that this wasn't a one off, I also ordered a unit for Ianhear and his is the same. Ian W also had the same issue with his on his Paul Smart.

I think that's a very poor oversight on Diopa's part. How hard is it to drill a central hole?

The latch also needed 4 washers to space it far enough down to reach the female part of the latch, and I needed to disassemble the seat to remove the spacing washers fitted to the underside of the 4 rubber pillars that sit on the frame, as there was more clearance than it needed.

Having complained a little I'm very happy with the end result. It's central, it clips on and off more easily than the fat OEM seat, it feels totally secure, ...and it looks soooo pretty.

It came unpainted, but in red impregnated fibreglass, so because it didn't match my black and gold tank and I didn't want to wrap it (matt black wrap is a pain to maintain) I knew I'd have to strip the tank and send both off to the paint shop... but as my bike used to be red, I had the added bonus of being able to run the seat on the bike for a while, and put the paint on hold.

Here she is...

...and here she was 4 months ago...

I think it's fair to say that the diet has been a success...

So all my mates keep telling me... I'll keep it red for a few weeks and see how I feel. I guess it just seems less special to keep the OEM paint job.

I rode into Soho this afternoon and it attracted 4 bike cops, who I spent 20 minutes with, and about 5 tourist photos!

I might cover the white stripe with a black racing stripe with outer pinstripes and see how that looks.
honestly i like it but since every second (or so it seems) sc in ol´germany is equipped with a diopa seat i feel a need for something different. still a beautiful look though and def more following the original lines and intention of a cafe racer. like the seat off the baines imola as well, but if the diopa seat is a bit pricey that thingie is made of unaffordium..

I didn't realise the Diopa was so popular. I've only ever seen two. One online and one on a bike in the flesh.

...I'm not such a fan of he other seat, as I don't like the way it overshoots the frame, and looks like it's tilted up. Looks very well made though. Whereas the Diopa is definitely "aftermarket"
I like it. How does the seat feel? I imagine being able to manuever alot better with this. How about some shots from the back?

As far as the color...Ive never been a huge fan of the red on the sports but it does look good on yours because it adds some contrast to all the black on the bike.

It feels really comfy, but definitely easier to move around on, and I can't wait to try it on track, as the OEM seat doesn't let you move around much.

I'm with everyone on this colour thing. Lots of red and chrome sucks, but a bit of red with loads black might just be ok. I def won't go back to matt black. It's nicer to see the tank shape.
Looks great. Very nice transformation.

Here's a pic from the back, on my friend IanW's Paul Smart. It's identical.

I'm really enjoying the red at the moment too...

I'm gonna keep it like this for a couple of months (just as well, cos I'm a bit broke) and then decide on a colour after Xmas. At the moment I'm considering a nice Paul Smart silver, as I'm really enjoying a proper retro cafe-racer look.

Meanwhile I'm trying to do mods that don't cost much. I have a new tail light setup to fabricate which will eradicate my indies and look a little more retro than my LED oval, and I'm also going to fiddle with my reservoirs again.

...and that Imola seat is working out very well. It's very comfy and easy to move around on.

Can you please post pictures of this hole? Also, did you contact the manufacturer and let them know of their error?

I still like mine without the middle tail light...

relatively pure...

I could take a phone pic next time I'm on the bike in daylight, but you won't see much unless I remove the latch pin. Also it was a very easy fix: - Just two minutes with a tapered round file, - so I was annoyed out of principle rather than inconvenience.

I now have a hole shaped like the way they show binoculars on TV shows; a sort of fat figure 8 - so the pin is still secure and won't move at all, and it's not a problem mechanically

I probably will email them and tell them that all three of our units had the same problem, but if they're so lazy to repeat such a simple and obvious mistake I'm not expecting them to care that much.

Me too. I have my own plan for this: Two bullet-shaped Integrated indies side by side, about 3 cm apart, and mounted from above.

Problem is, how to attach the plate from behind?

Very nice & clean but what do you do for brake/running light?
Brake and running light is integrated in the signals!! Ha!

Dutch, make it five units! We had the same problem with our two units...round file for 30 seconds...done! But still...!

Hmm, I like the middle light as the dinky LED units just don't go with the bike. IMO.

Mine will be semi old-school... a pair of round rearward-facing bullets, abut 2 inches apart, tucked under the tail close to the subframe...

The hard part is mounting the plate.

Thats'a 5 outta 5 then... I will def send an email. So should you.
