I am contemplating a ride through California and would like to ride through Yosemite, Owens Valley and Death Valley. Is it advisable to do that in the spring and if so what is the best time? I would like to avoid the heat as much as possible but yet be able to get through the high mountain passes without needing knobies and survival gear. I am sure there are number of you gear twisters out there who ride that country all the time and can give me good advise. How about it?

Earlier the better. I used to ride up to Death Valley every March when I lived in Tucson. It can get cold, but you *should* be able to avoid snow if you stay low.
