De-blinging the fuel cap

After starting with the dashboard, i want to present you the new project of the bavarian de-bling crew… the fuel cap!

Basically the de-bling can be done with your existing chromed fuel cap but i decided to take the 749/999 cap as it is not polished and chrome plated but simply painted in silver… i bought a few used ones before.

The advantage of not polishing the cast raw part is maintaining a more precise ridge and overall contour.

I disassembled the caps and removed the paint by carefully sand blasting the parts…

Afterwards i shot peened them with glass pearls to densify the surface.

Finally the parts were coated with a thin layer of matte black epoxy resin that is extremely UV and scratch resistant.

Voilà here they are… i still have to assemble them :D

Very nice PA. I was also thinking about following your lead on the dashboard and fuel cap but I'm not sure that it will look good since my bike is shiny black. It looks killer on your yellow though:D

On a shiny black bike it is looking very good… a friend of mine had it like that before he painted his bike GTish gray.

And don't forget to anodize your clip ons… they look much better in black… i did a pair for LASwede

Yes I've been wanting black clip-ons since I got the bike. It will go well with my whole 'black out' look. I'm also thinking about a set of black instead of silver SATO II rearsets.

Bring'em to an anodizing company in your region…

I was thinking of trying to find a used set somewhere and anodizing myself. or letting someone do it. have a spare set?
Reassembled and mounted! :)

Not sure that would look good on the black or red (with white stripes), but on that yellow, it looks perfect!!!!

Yeah… these clip ons are of outstanding quality + adjustability…
Man that looks stunning. well done.
Looks vicious, like a angry wasp.
Hi PA,
Was wondering how you removed the lock from the fuel cap? :)
Cheers,

Cheers,
If you unscrew the latch underneath you see the lock barrel from behind… there is a little brass slider with a hole that has to be moved to unlock the barrel
Everything blacked-out on your bike looks awesome... certainly unique. Minor hi-jack but what mirrors are you running there and do they work if you were to place them upside down (i.e. under the bar level)?
Agree - on a yellow w black stripe that is a visual upgrade :)
black anodized fuel cap

looks great!
Got an extra one for sale????
