Crank case was split and oil was reused.

I personally wouldn't do this for fear of any contamination, especially on a new bike.

But, was wondering if its acceptable for dealers/workshops to do this? if so I'll have to wear it:mad:

I did this once because my starter went right after I did a full oil change. I made sure the oil did not get contaminated.

But you're saying the dealer did this?
I would say that is unusual as you would think they would want to sell you new oil with the job....
If this is a brand new bike and it was warranty work, I would not be too happy about it...

If the crankcases are being split for WHATEVER reason ,,, it's got to be serious ,,, and expensive.
Even if the part required is a $10.00 spring or circlip ,,, the labour component will run to thousands.

The cost of oil at around $50.00 is so minimal in the larger picture cost, that only a fool would re-use it.

No matter how careful one might be to avoid contamination ,,,, there has to be some, and that makes it false economy to even contemplate it.

Thanks for the feedback.

I just wanted to make sure this wasn't something that was normal these days.

Yes, it was warrenty work, I'm not sure what I can do, as the jobs done and oil is back in bike, but Im not happy.

You need a new mechanic , go elsewhere next time. Let them know...

Chances are small for damage but why take chances...

I would not be happy if this was warranty work. I cannot believe they could not get authorization from DNA to put fresh oil in your bike.

Like I said, I reused my two day old synthetic oil because my starter went two days after I did a full oil change and I had to split the case to get to one of the starter bolts. I however made sure every step and all containers were sparkling clean and I used filtered funnel to pour the oil back in. I could be wrong but personally cannot imagine some mechanic being as cautious as I was.

Like others said, I would change the oil and definitely complain to the dealer to re-imburse you for the oil.

Thanks for all the feedback, I don't come on here much and when I do I usually find out what I want by looking.

I've had time to think and although rediculous on a warranty job, probably not as bad as I thought, the dealer would have been very carefull and hopefully didn't collect any dregs or dust etc.

Biggest problem is the adjustments done don't seem to have fixed the problem.

thanks again, for the replies.
