It seems that a lot of coolant comes pre-mixed at 50-50%. A 2012 Streetfighter 848 shop manual calls for a 35-40% mix of coolant with water. So, i purchased Prestone concentrate and will do the mixing myself. It is the yellow concentrate which was what came out of the bike when I drained it.

The suggested Shell antifreeze from the shop manual isn't available here.

Wondering if anyone else has used Prestone and if it is the right one to use?

35% – 40% provides protection down to -5°F – 10°F. It gets colder in Alaska so I'm assuming you have a heated garage.

(50/50 get you down to-34°F)

I use prestone premix and haven't had an issue in 100 degree weather with high humidity. The temp gauge will go almost all the way up at a stop but cools back down to 3 or 4 bars as soon as the fan turns on.

When came the time to freshen up coolant on the '10 SF1098, I switched to Engine Ice and average running temps definitely seem a little cooler. Empirical data from doing this on my other Ducs suggests 1-4 degrees average cooler running. Not a gamechanger but worth noting...

Water is the best coolant on the planet. The higher percentage of water when mixed with glycol, the lower the engine coolant temperatures. Waterless coolants simply don't cool as well.
