Hey guys, I wanted to get your opinion on a trade that I'm considering doing.
I recently bought an ’08 S that I shipped from a dealer in Minnesota this last September. I love this bike to death as it is setup exactly the way I would have my perfect S to be. You could say that owning this bike has shown me how much I love the hyper more than I could have ever possibly imagined which has shamefully enough made me really want to experience owning the latest and arguably greatest rendition of the original Hyper.
Coming from primarily of a dirtbike/supermoto background, the extra height and ground clearance of the SP in particular is what really appeals to me. The updated modern electronics and Evoluzione motor are all bonuses. The more I’ve looked at the 2013 models, the longer I see myself owning the original.
I’ve actually tried sourcing out used SP forks but have concluded that it would be more cost effective to simply sell my S and find a nicely setup SP instead as the cost of finding a pair of these forks would just about work out to be about the same if that makes sense.
There’s been a white SP for sale locally that I’ve been watching over the past month and decided to finally contact the owner about it. This particular bike is setup very similar accessory wise as mine and has the same 2-1 Termi exhaust system, DP racing seat, axle sliders and some C/F accessories. The owner would be interested in doing a partial trade for my bike, plus $2k on my part. He states that it is in perfect condition. For reference, my ’08, which is flawless throughout, has 3900 miles and his 2010 has 7400. It is obviously due for its 7500 mile service but apparently he has a friend who is a mechanical at a local Duc dealership who will do it. I am planning to go and take a look at the bike this weekend and talk with him more about the service logistics and how that would work.
Does $2k sound out of the ballpark to add in on a trade, assuming the bike checked out?
I have decided that I love my current bike too much to sell it outright and buy a stock SP only to purchase the same $$$ accessories. To locate an out of state similarly setup SP and ship it would most likely be out of the question and since this particular bike is already setup and have the opportunity to trade, it is why I am interested.
Your thoughts are appreciated.
For reference, here are the two bikes.
