I am considering buying a 1000ss and I need to know if they are comfortable or not. I like to do long rides, so the comfort level is very important to me. Any comments like personal experience, mods to make comfortable (bar risers), etc. are appreciated.

This question is entirely subjective so you really need to find one and perch yourself on it for a while. I don't find them uncomfortable at all, but they are certainly no Monster. Lot's of people do complain about the position, though.

+1 to SouthSide. Although I ride a 900, I wouldn't think the riding position would differ to greatly. I'm just shy of 6'3" and weigh 210, and have done plenty of 300-400 mile days. Only comfort upgrade was a Sargent seat. Although, I wouldn't want to go cross country on it, it's plenty comfortable enough to go camping for a few days (even with camping gear).

Got to agree here. FWIW, I've ridden pre-98 SS cross country several times in absolute comfort. The only comfort mod has been a Sargent seat. I think the SS is the best all-around Duc ever.

SS Comfort

The SS line is designed for two-lane roads and the twisties at high speeds and utter confidence. As long as that's what you're doing, its a great tool. Probably the best Ducati for the real world of street riding.

Oh, you want to carry a passenger in long-distance comfort? - go ST.

You want to blast down racetrack straights? - go Superbike.

Want to blast around town? - go Monster or Multistrada.

You'll probably want some bar risers (mine are Ferraci) and maybe a different seat(mine's stock).
