Quick question: Should I clean the shipping oil off my new steel clutch plates? My new clutch pack from Ducati came with all the steels in a plastic bag with a silica gel pack, and have a light oil coating on them to prevent corrosion. Do I clean them with alcohol or lacquer thinner to remove the oil, or just put them in?

Brake/clutch cleaner would do the trick? White spirits is oil-based so wouldnt totally degrease then as such.;)

May try this plate-grease trick one day, just worried about using the wrong grease??!

White spirit is great for degreasing.
Brake / clutch cleaner has some nasty chemicals in it you don't want to be spraying around.
Can't go wrong with the grease, just use plain old lithium, black or white.

Thanks for all the advice. I ended up wiping off the oil with a bit of lacquer thinner on a rag, let it all evaporate, then installed the plates. If if gets grabby, I may look into the lithium grease trick. -John
