OK I'm going to VIR April 10-11 and well as a couple of my friends. I know Zooom is going as well as Ken (Maryland998). Wondering if anyone else here is headed down there? For those going we'll probably leave Sunday afternoon. Thinking of maybe a group of us caravaning it down there.

I am going and I would definitely be down for a caravan, especially if anyone has any trailer space? otherwise ill meet up with whoevers heading down and follow on the bike. any word on rooms? I've never been to VIR but I know theres a lodge, is anyone interested in splitting a room? I can be quite comfortable on the floor if its cheaper then me getting my own room :p or camping space, anyone been to VIR and know if its cool to bring a tent? Pardon the barrage of questions this will be my first track day, hence the no clue factor. Thanks

Everyone will have a tent for shade. I would definitely recommend against riding your bike. I won't have room since I'll have a 1 bike trailer and my car can't tow 2 bikes. But ask the organizer and maybe on the MAD site if anyone has extra space. If not I would recommend renting a cargo van from Enterprise. It's like $75 a day maybe unlimited mileage. You do NOT want to ride back after a track day. Unless you are staying Tuesday night as well. Still then you could get hurt in a wreck and then you're in tough predicament. Or your bike could get wrecked. Not trying to jinx you but it's rare that I see people ride to a track day.

Here are some hotel prices I checked into today. My friends I'm going with are wanting to go with the cheaper hotels. I'd prefer the Lodge myself but it is double the price.

Lodge - on the track - $89 a night total of $97.90 a night.

30 miles away from VIR - South Boston - Days Inn $55.80 $61.38
after tax (434)-572-4941

12-15 miles from VIR - Days Inn Danville - $55.50 $60.78 after tax
(434)836-6745

20 minutes away (15 miles) from VIR - Super 8 - $50 $55.05 after tax

well tent wise i was talking about a tent to sleep in over night and not get a room at all (i backpack alot so sleeping over night is no big thing long as they wont get pissed at me for pitching a tent overnight) you happen to know if they are cool with that down there?

as far as the trailer goes i'm gonna check around, Cole said he may have a space for me but he'll let me know in march. worst case scenario my parents have a van(ford aerostar, extended chassis) i can take the seats out of and should have plenty of room, im a little hesitant to do that though case ive never secured a bike down before, i can clip tie downs into the steel frame where the seats attach, and i assume you tie up the tires so the bike cant slide at the bottom and then to the frame, but that means all the attachments will be on the floor, nothign higher up. mainly concerned with getting it into and out of the van without dropping it though.

Thanks for the hotel info, ill keep that in mind.
Of course if i end up taking the van option then I can curl up in the back with my baby for the night :p

if I was taking a trailer....I'd offer...but it is looking like I am going to load up all I think I need in the back of my little VW Caddy pick-up....and I do agree with Sam on not riding down!....it isn't so much the 4-5 hour ride down but more the what if something happens pucker factor and the fact that the ride down is likely to flat spot your tires somewhat and make them not so worthy of using on the track....but my plan as of right now is to attempt to stay in the Lodge and I am considering sharing a room to offset the cost somewhat!

go to the website for MAD ( www.MAD-Ducati.com ) and click on "articles" and then "bike tie down for transport" and that paired with some common sense might be all you need to secure your bike in the Aerostar!....

Dinner would be cool, Sam

JoJo and I ate at a Mexican restaurant in Danville in front of our hotel last summer that was pretty darn good for in the middle of Virginia. If your not into Mexican we can all vote on something else. Ken.
