Hi Folks!

I’m in the progress of converting a ‘05 street 999S to track day only.

I have removed the org. headlight HW and mounted a DBHolders instead.

I had no issues with the fairing fit before.

Now, with the race fairing in place, there is about a 2”/4.5cm gap, from the fairing stay to the nose fairing.

Is this normal for that type of stay and if yes, what’s the best way to mount it?

Thanks in advance!

Following, I will be there in a few weeks when I have rebuilt the engine...
When mounting the db holders part, I did notice that it sits quite low if compared to the original. I did not make an exact comparison though...

Could there be a difference between 03-04 fairongs and the facelift 05-06 in height? I know the width is slightly larger for the facelift?

I would think it is either the wrong cage or wrong bodywork for the early vs late bodywork. There are plenty of aftermarket parts that get mislabeled or simply made wrong. I would start by showing this fit to the people you bought the cage from and they should swap it out. If not them show it to the company who makes the cage, I think you simply have the wrong variation.

You could make spacers but given it is new I would try and get the right parts first.

My first thoughts were taller 04-06 fairing but not the case. Is there material where it bolts to the frame to drill more holes?

I thought about the same for a second. However, bottom mounts for the air ducts lineup. Hence relocating the base mount will not work.

Their website states fitment for ‘03-‘05 and “...Fits all racing bodywork which are following original mounting points of OEM bodywork...”

I’ll drop them a email and see what they have to say.

Keep in mind far too many aftermarket manufacturers do not know if parts they make actually fit. A once big name aftermarket builder of billet clip-ons and rearsets once sold some clip ons listed for a bike that they physically could not fit. when the mechanic called them he was told" yeah we thought it might fit that model too" , they had never test fit a set. It also could simply be an honest error of a mis-marked part, easy to do many steps along the way to you.

Most any part can be made to fit but that's far from "bolts right up", I bet they will make it right. The ram tubes did not change location on the different generation it was mostly the mirror area where they were trying to either make the mirrors more functional or greater wind protection at speed.

Can you bend/adjust the fairing stay brackets up and does the carbon flex enough to come down some? I don't remember ever not having to make some adjustments to race fairing stays/bodywork on these and I've fitted everything from Hotbodies, Sebimoto, Sharkskinz, Armour Bodies and various carbon.

Could be the manufacture doesn’t specialise in any particular bike brand (most don’t) and just copied what someone gave them. But in this case it seems most odd that it’s so low for any incarnation of 999 be it earlier, late, R or RS. Strange.

Doing the same thing regarding the front setup and at least Bursi sells specific 03-04 front fairing holder. Also Pierobon ask whether you want the 03-04 model front or 05-06. So there should be difference and I would say your front fairing stay is for the later fairing.

e. going thru some old 03/04 vs. 05/06 fairing threads and based on those the later model front fairing should be wider and taller so that doesn't explain your problem since your front fairing stay is too low for the 03/04 fairing. I would say the part is poorly made.

Follow up: fortunately I have a spare early & late OEM nose fairing, which I used to compare the fit.

Surprise surprise, the early fairing fits almost perfectly a 9/10 and the late fairing fits more like a 8/10.

Furthermore, I measured and found out that the SFC CF noise is about 1cm too wide on both sides. Hence the above mentioned misfit.

And that’s how the cookie crumbles!

Looks like a little TIG welding is coming up to make the CF nose fit.

Thanks for all the support and advise!!

So the carbon top is 05-06 or R. Odd as the fit between the top and mids of late top to early lowers need to be “massaged” to fit perfectly.

No idea what the top is - impulse buy of eBay a while ago.

Yes, it needs some massaging at the joint, maybe 1mm off.

Hope these details will help the next guy a bit with the fitment.

So I assembled (or tried to) the original front fairing (facelift model 05-06)to the dbholders, the top holes line up, but not the bottom holes: iam missing 20mm each side... I guess its an easy fix with 20mmspacers...

I'am going to inform DBholders and ask for a solution...

See pics...

Good info! Also installing a DBl)) Holders stay on 2005 749 and also want the stock headlights mounted onto the horizontal bars of the new DB fairing stay. Also saw cool front led turn signals that wrap around the fork tubes and I thought about making my own block off plates with led signals built in. Knock offs/copy cat/jerry rig...i should be able to keep the beam height adjustment feature of stock headlight aiming system...Any ideas?
