Just lately when I first turn the key and you can hear the fuel pump prime, the priming has a raspy sound. I can't quite tell if it's coming from the fuel pump or somewhere near by. Has anyone had this before? Is it a warning sign from the pump or, like cars, do the pumps just quit?

When i heard that noise from beneath my tank, a fuel line from inside the tank got a small hole. After a day or two the bike did not rev over 6k and scattered when i opened full throttle. Fixed it by replacing.

UPDATE:

Found it! When you turn the key and the fuel pump primes there's something else that happens too. The electric fan spins for a second... and if your velcro tool bag has a chewed up corner it should be obvious where the buzzing noise was coming from. :)
