Can anyone suggest a great outdoor cover for a 916 series bike (998). Right now Ive got her in my finished garage, but soon my wife wants me to park her on a covered patio. The bike wont be directly in the elements ,but I want to cover it up as much as possible. Should I be looking for an OEM cover? Where are some good places to check out some prices? Thanks,

Jason

I use Nelson Rigg, have for years. I have 4 of them. They hold up nice and are of good quality. Come to think of it, mine are about 10 years old. But they have covered the bikes inside a public garage. Very little outdoor use on two of them.

They have nice nylon mesh net on the inside for ventilation and to prevent moisture build up. Also have heat guards on the lower half, for the cans. Also grommets so you can loop a cable to lock the cover to the bike [one time someone stole my BMW 740i $200 cover because I was too lazy to lock the cover. Thought no one would steal the cover in the garage. Aholes:mad: ].

I would stay away from any that say "Ducati" because if you ever need to park the bike on a street, no need to advertise to thieves what is under the cover.

Also stay away from custom fit. Those are expensive, and while they look nice, you cannot use it on any bike. These "generic" are good because you can cover any bike you might have.

If under a covered patio, do NOT get the plastic ones, get the nice nylon polyester model. Keep in mind though that the polyester model is water resistent, not water proof, like the plastic ones. Since you will be using it in a covered space, I would pass on the water proof model. It's like a plastic raincoat, whereas the polyester model has a nice feel to it.

Nelson Rigg sold on line and at many shops. eBay has best deals:

I would get the large or extra large [but large has fit all my bikes. Extra large covers barca lounger bikes, so I would stick to large, like I have].

This seller seems to have a good price, sizes and colors:

Park the wife on the coverd patio. Duc's don't live outside.

*I'm kidding...*
Man sometimes I would live to park her @$$ somewhere!!! Her and all my bad @$$ kids, oh well!!!

Thanks for the lead on the Nelson Rigg's covers. Stupid me, I tend to corrolate price with quality, hense the more expensive, the better quality an item is. I probably wouldnt have given these a second look. Ill probably pick up a silver/black large unless I get some other tips to the contrary.

Like I said earlier, right now its parked in my garage, but I'm getting a pad poured on the side of my house (like 16'ish x 32'ish) and then Im going to put some kind of awning over that. So techinically its not going to be exposed to the rain or other elements. Good tip on getting a water resistant vs. water proof cover for breathability purposes.

I went to Nelson Rigg's website and these are for sale at $45, shipping included. May want to just get one from there.

There are many types of breathable fabrics available. The big difference in price between the cheap covers (and tarps) and the good covers is due to the breathable fabrics. Never ever cover a bike with a non-breathable cover. Condensation build-up under the cover can do lots of damage.

I have the max cover from empire its a 3 layer cover made from Tyvek developed by DuPont.
