Bike cover for commuters/outdoor parking

Do you use a bike cover when parking at work, metro, park&ride, etc? Worried about the UV rays coming through the depleted ozone to fade my bike from red to pink  ! My work has a huge surface parking lot with absolutely no cover from the blazing sun.

Seriously, will a bike cover do more harm than good by causing scratches?
Do covers melt on hot exhaust sticking out the tail?
Any particular covers rated highly? Compact enough to throw in a backpack?

Thanks for the help.

Oops I missed that thread  . Quick, dumb question Roto or anyone else, do those covers fold up enough to stick in backpack with other gear or are they a pain to carry?

Thanks.

The NelsonRiggs that I use fold up to a very compact size. Maybe about 6" x 8" x 3", but that is just a guess. Of all the covers I have had, this is the most compact. That is because it is very thin, but durable, material.
