what's up guys,

i am trying to gather some experienced opinions on the best, probably fiberglass to plastic, bodywork options are to go on a 748 monoposto for the track. I've narrowed down my search to the following links below, but very hard to tell fit and finish quality from photos (and sometimes renderings).

any tips on who has had what and what was good (and maybe what was bad)

I bought my 748 with hot bodies and they were decent. I sell and install bodywork for track bike builds all the time and knew what I wanted, Sharksinz. I do not race but do instruct on track days, I some times need to park my bike trackside while helping with fallen riders or helping out a corner worker. For this reason I chose the 2- piece sharkskinz with side stand cutout. Yes I lose some belly pan capacity and yes I have had a belly pan save me. first year I bought the bike a piston crumbled and I filled the pan with oil at speed.

The sharkskinz are not the lightest or the cheapest (might be priciest ) but the body is strong,repairable and functional. I make the least amount of $$ selling it as the margins are super thin but it is often the one I recommend the most due to fit,strength and features. I do not have them install the 1/4 turn fasteners because I am not a fan of the type they use but that is easy.

thank you for this - super helpful and actually both options i hadn't considered. sharkskin has since been suggested by a friend as well and the UK site i had not even heard of. going to dig deeper on both these options.

My vote is also Sharkskinz. I have track style sets with and without bellypans and they are very good quality.

Brands aside, I have a 2-piece design (upper half + lower half with integrated bellypan) and personally can't stand it. Before I got my trailer, I needed to remove the bellypan to clear the angle between the ramp and my van. Reinstalling it was a pain because it was a but big and cumbersome. My personal preference is for the 4-piece design used by most professional racers that have the upper, bellypan, and two sides. You can remove one side or the other without removing anything else (like accessing the battery or belts). Something to think about.

That is definitely something to think about as my buddy and I load our bikes into the back of a large ford transit - not quite as high / steep of an angle as a pickup but definitely not a trailer.

I have the ricambi weiss set, its very light, but the fitment isn't perfect. The kickstand drags on the cutout. And there is a an imprint for the light cutouts. you have to sand them down to make it flush, and drill your own holes for fastners. its good quality, but you have to do a little work for it.

Sharkskinz are definitely the gold standard, but there are a number of other decent brands, like Hot Bodies. As a rule of thumb, as long as it's fiberglass and not plastic, you'll be in good shape.

On a side note, I happen to have a set of yellow painted track fairings available.
