Bench testing a Bosch ignition inducer

1408 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  robax
Hi folks: the main reason my bike (81 MHR) was taken out of service was loss of power to one cylinder and an overheated Bosch ignition inducer. I have spares but it would be great to know if there is a way to bench test these inducers. I tried some really simple resistance checks using a multi-meter and found that the two inducers I plan to be using both produce similar results but it would be great to know if there is a more formal test procedure. I've already been advised to get rid of the whole ignition system and out in a more modern and reliable one. Any advice would be most welcome.

I don't know about testing them, but I'd junk the lot and fit a Sachse system!
I've already looked at the Sachse system and been advised the same by another owner. The instructions really suck and there are no comments/recommendations on what to do regulator and coils-wise. Duccout: have you gone with Sachse and if so what extra ignition system components did you use?
I have not fitted one, but lots of people have and are very pleased. These people can help you - Rudiger is a great guy and speaks English.https://www.ducati-kaemna.com/catal...assic/digitale-zuendung-sachse-zdg3-2873.html

Just in case you're still looking at a Sachse. I was told it didn't really matter what coils are used so long as they are otherwise appropriate for the engine. So I opted to keep my 5 Ohm Dyna coils in place of the Sachse-supplied unit, mainly because they look better, were as new, and were already nicely mounted. Regulator is the original '82 unit. All runs perfectly.

Attached is a photo of the Sachse unit and my Dyna's.
