Anyone?

Well I'm one a quest to outfit my 2005 ST3 with a rear bracket and rear case. Ducati has them on line, but of course to make life truly misreable, it just tells me "coming soon", so I have no idea what they cost. Anyone have a clue where I can do some on-line shopping? Maybe get a price? With Givi I would have to change the side panniers and bags and get their pannier and bags. My OEM panniers are made by NonFango, so I cannot use the Givi rear mount.

I Got mine Today

I got mine in Today.. It is really nice.. But I am having problems mounting... I followed the directions and then ran into a serious problem.. I stripped out the allen bolts that hold the case frame onto the rear foot pegs.. The metal was so soft that one slight turn with the allen wrench and they stripped out.. See pic below. I will have a complete install guide when I am done.. I have been taking pictures..

If anyone has any ideas on how to take these soft ass metal allen bolts out with out screwing up the foot pegs I am all ears..

For the screw that is buggered up you have a couple of options that I would try:

1.) Run down to your Sears hardware store and get at set of "screw-out" damaged screw removers. or 2.) Get your dremel out and cut a slot for a flat screw driver blade

Make sure you have a quality set of hex wrenches, a poorly fitting wrench will ruin even a good screw. If the screws are really tight, a couple of drops of penetrating oil over night will help.

For replacement screws, I like using desmoparts.com. He has every type of metric screw you can imagine and good prices (no affliation, just a satisfied customer).

Good Luck,
Peter

take a dremel tool and create a flat head screwdriver slot to use to take it out....since I assume you are going to be pitching it in the trash when you are done and putting a better replacement in.....I'd take a dremel and make a slotted groove for a flat head or do a cross slot for a phillips...your choice mate!

Excellent I'm going to the show here in Chicago in two weeks. I have been trying eBay also, but as usual eBay stuff usually ends up going for more than retail!
I've been thinking about a top case too. One thing I wonder is if when you take the case off how ugly does the bracket look sticking out the back?

I have seen Vivid1's 954 without the topcase, just the bracket, not that bad, but Japanese bikes have a inscet look to them, so it kind of works. On a Italian it might be down right fugly!

Margo is good. BTW the 3rd shot [aerial] of your beautiful bike, screams for a Sargent seat with red piping and the Italian flag. It will add just enough, pulling in the red from the wheels. Margo can order one for you...

Not too bad. Not as fugly as I thought. In fact it doesn't look too much different than the new Buell Ulysses with the flip backrest in the back position. I may get one of these rigs too, since I find myself filling up the panniers to the bursting point most of the time. Is the backrest for the passenger still optional and is it worth it?
Thank you for posting the pictures.

How about access to the rear key to unlock the seat? Does the bracket get in the way? Does it require removing the top case to unlock the seat?

I have always been able to access the seat lock on my three ST's without removing the Nonfango AWACS trunk.
