Hey all,

I've got an opportunity to pick up a used Tuneboy kit with QS, CC and nudge buttons - I was looking at ordering one new. I wondered, if the nudge buttons and QS are in good order, is there any other issue with buying a used kit? I presume all the latest flashes are available on it still, and that I can just download these if they don't come with it? Has the USB interface changed over the years at all?

If the kit had been used on a previous bike, will the unlock code be fused to that bike? Would I need to purchase a whole new code from Tuneboy or can the code be reused?...

If anyone has any insight I'd love to hear it before I waste my money!

Thanks,

Tk

The unlock code is fused to the bike its on. Cant un-install and re-install on another bike.
You will need to contact tuneboy about getting a completly new code.

Ah, I see. Looks like the tune/cruise key will cost me approx. $399 AUD, so all of a sudden it's not looking like such a great deal.

The old bike was written off, so it's a shame that it's linked to an ECU that'll probably never be powered up again!...

Thanks for the info!

Well, the one I had seen was $700 AUD for just the hardware. It will be then another $399 for the code to use it. $1099 total. The same package brand new is $1098, so it's not a great deal ;)

The seller was not aware of the code issue. Chatting to him about solutions so we will see...

Well, I'm back on the hunt for this.... The seller is willing to let it go pretty cheap. It'll save me quite a decent chunk of money over buying a new one, even after buying a new code.

Wondered if anyone has any knowledge as to whether there are any other real risks with a second hand package? I guess the only real mechanical part is the strain gauge, so presuming that works and the USB module is fine then really it should be good as new, right?... ...

Yeah, it's just hardware. The strain gauge is the only thing that'll get significant wear. I'd be interested in the milage that the unit has seen and what state it's in generally. If everything is in working order and hasn't seen huge milage it's buyer beware as usual.

The license from Tuneboy is matched to your bike and is just software like the CC and mapping so yeah, the USB unit should be there and working as well.

Seller says 45,000km. Quite a bit... I'm very torn. It's a good deal, but if the quickshifter gives up the ghost soon after purchase that would negate it... Will try to go have a look and see the condition.

I just got a used one also. My total speeding including the new key(tune/cruise) is around $650nzd. Stain guage works well. I just hope it will last
How old/used was the one you bought? That's a similar amount to what id be looking at spending. I guess they are a fairly simple beast, probably not too likely to break down...
