I had an idea for an alternate method to check cam belt tension.
I finally got the chance to try it out, and theory vs practice were in agreement for a change.
The factory method uses a light beam to measure the resonant frequency of the belt. The tighter the belt, the higher its resonant frequency.
I thought that I might be able to use a microphone connected to my laptop's sound card to measure the belts frequency. I used a program called TrueaudioRTA. www.trueaudio.com . The program displays frequency along the horizontal direction and amplitude in the vertical direction.
The Ducati factory shop manual provides a specification of 110Hz +/-5 Hz.
Adjust the belt tension to create a peak at the 110 Hz location on the computer display. My tests showed that this method is easy and repeatable.

Theres a fairly lengthy post on this exact topic in the Hall of Wisdom I do believe... Different tuner programs, mic's and whatnot. Seems to be the way to go!
