For those interested in a trouble free lap timer, AIM announced the SoloDL is now compatible with the '09 and later Hypers. Sadly I have an 08 and am still not riding. Anyhoo, I had the SoloDL wired to my '10 SF with nice results. The integration with the hyper records more data channels from the bike and since it is gps based, no beacon. It automatically knows what track you are at (huge data base) and when you have down time between sessions or at home, you can look at your laps using RaceStudio software (free) which shows exactly how each lap was run with 1/10 sec intervals.

You dont have to wire it into the bike, but if you do you get data from the ECU, standalone will garner just basic info but still give you lots to think about on improving your times by dissecting your lap. If there is a cool Christmas/Festivus present, this would be one to get yourself!

BTW, I started out using their AIM SmartyCam, which records video and ecu/gps data to microsd card, then the SoloDL came out. Both are cool products in my book. I've done some posts on the SF forum about it and have some videos on youtube...

Just thought I'd share... I'm not tied to AIM or make any money etc... Im just a whore when it comes to gadgets I guess. :)

Love gadgets too, and that is very cool, I just don't go the track enough to warrant the cost. I use Track Day for iphone, works great for my needs. I reviewed it here. Love your Jennings videos.

Besides, this may not even work with the 796?

It will work with any vehicle, the "DL" version allows ecu data to record to the SoloDL. One of my links shows what data come from the bike. Speed and position are from the unit itself, so no dash speed errors. The real pay off is the Race Studio software for lap analysis... but as you said, if you dont do many track days and it's not a priority... it's all good!! This post only came about when AIM announced that the SoloDL was now compatible with the Pani', the Multi 1200 and the newer Hypers. I had mine wired into my SF, which involved splicing into dash CAN Bus wires. The new release provides a cable to plug into the diagnostics port... hell of a lot less scary than what I had to do.
