Im changing out the GT header pipes. The front cylinder header pipe drags on high speed turns on track which I'm sure instigates a slow slide. So, I have had enough of that and will get total bike clearance, except of course the wheels. You might say, hang off more you lazy bastard but any more hanging I may as well be on a sidecar.

The custom pipe maker is a veteran who knows his game and plans to go steel pipe with a alliuminum colour heat sealer that keeps the heat in the pipe.
He suggests pipe size same as the exhaust port.

What is the theory regarding SC header pipes to get best engine performance.
And does someone have a cheap and cherfull conversion story.
The front pipe will go under the engine. The pipes will be connected to each other but have no O2 sensor because we don't know any better. Two into one is also an option, can't see why not.

Not sure if this is what you wanted to hear....but, why not track down a monoposto swing-arm from an 06 PS or SC, then get the termignoni race 2-1 or full race Zards? This will give you all the clearance you want.

I have the 2-1 termi for sale and ecu.

Regarding diameter of pipe, stock engine same size and tuned a few mm more then exhaust valve. This is just generaly speaking, you can easily calculate the diameter and lenght of header. There are plenty of "calculators" on tuningsites that can give you a ide, you just state your engine specs and they dive you the measurements. Then if its right or not only the dyno can tell.

Have a look at the system I had made up for my bike:

http://www.ducati.ms/forums/showthread.php?t=67578

or

http://sites.google.com/site/ducatisport1000s/home/09-custom-made-exhaust-system

The front head pipe is tucked up very close to the engine, just left of center. If you look at the shape of the bottom of the engine, you can see why we routed it this way.

The headers are also of a stepped design, but I confess that no design effort went into by me, I copied the design from another forum member, "Muschi":

http://www.ducati.ms/forums/showpost.php?p=594999&postcount=25

I wouldn't describe my conversion cheap :( but definitely cheerful. I puts a huge smile on my face every time I start up the bike and ride it :D

Hope this helps.
