Friends,
Im away from home right now and need some help. I would like to know (1) what the inside diameter (to 3 decimal places) of the handle bar tubes and (2) the outside diameter of the grip where it meets the bar ends. I have limited access to a metal lathe this week and MIGHT be able to make some custom bar end weights. No guarantees, though, but I would like to be prepared. Ive got the 2003 999s. Cant imagine that there is much difference between years.

Did a search and didn’t find the information under a handful of combinations.

Thanks in advance,
Lumberg

Update:
1st opportunity didn’t pan out...2nd chance was a winner. In the mean time, I was able to get back to my bike and I am as surprised as probably some of you fellow members might be to discover what I am about to tell you. As stated above, I have a 2003 999s. MY handlebar tubes, which are stock as far as I know (2nd owner), measure at six different cuts with an expanding ‘T’ gauge and dial caliper as follows:
0.6615
0.6610
0.6605
0.6600
0.6600
0.6600
[Shown in order of readings, coincidentally, not in descending order.]
Don’t forget that calipers are probably only good to +/- 0.001 I just added the 4th digit to illustrate the pointer between tick marks.

What about the custom bar ends, you ask? The short version goes something like this:
Tungsten?
Overkill.
Steel?
Oxidation and galvanic corrosion. How bout we turn down those aluminum ones you have there to fit? [Lockhard Phillips brand]
Okay…
No Cinderella stories here, just 0.032 turned off the LP buttons.
BACK TO WORK!!

Although not optimum, I would have to say they will work better than the plastic plugs in there right now. This might become a long-term experiment if I can find my way back to the machine shop later on. I will post my findings with the new ends the next opportunity I get. Thanks for the feedback and interest.
