Just bought this bike from NJ, its my first Duc I have always owned the Japanese Sort before this. Saved a lot for this bike. SO I get the Bike on Sat, ride it for 30 miles on the highway back up and my buddy who is following me in his car starts flashing the lights and shoots past me (being new to the Duc I wasnt going fast at all, 70-80 mph on the high way) he's then showing signs for me to pull over and flashing his hazards so I'm now following him off the exit ramp and slowly leaning the bike is starting to slip so I flip it back up then turn very gradually into a parking lot in the middle of no mans land in CT. I get off my bike and see my back tire is covered in oil WTF%%%% I'm like this is crazy I just bought the thing. I'm calm throughout the whole situation, So I get the Duc book and call the Tow company free road side assistance. He says that the nearest dealer will be closing in 30 mins and we cant have your bike there so they will have to store in CT till Tues (when the dealer opens) Cost out of my pocket $275.00 I couldnt believe it. So I asked how much to tow me to boston teh Dispatcher fro Ducati said 675$ I just laughed. in the time I was talking to him he had already sent for the Tow Truck driver to help me. When he came came I explained the story and he called his boss and said it will $500 towing to my house in Boston. So I have to pay 300 I'm still pissed at this point cause just imagine I just purchased this bike for a lot of money and now I have to pay the towing. So I get the bike towed, then called ducati towing again to get it towed from my house to the dearship (roughly 4 miles away) said that I will have to pay 160$ so far I'm not having any luck. Now I'm wishing I had kept my old Yamaha r1 05 never let me down once. I then make a few local calls and this local towing company would tow it for me for 90.00 so I agreed. I then called my local dealership up after explaining the problem I had getting here after spending a ton of cash on Towing and not to mention that I could be dead by now having oil all over my rear tire on the highway if it wasnt for my buddy who was keeping an eye on it, he said the soonest they can look at it is on the 25th May thats like 2wks and 4 days away. I just could not beleive my first experience with this bike. So now the bike sits in my garage.
Not to mention I spent half the away from work which I do not get paid for. I had to cancel my Termignoni pipes dues tyo all the extra expense...

I wrote to Ducati N.A and a really guy called me and was very nice on the phone, tomorrow I'm calling another Dealership approx 20 miles away they will foot the towing cost to that place. I dont know if I will get all the expenses and not to mention that this whole ordeal could have been a disaster.

My Question is Should I just go back to Jap Crap... and do you think I should have to wait two or three weeks till I get my bike back, I'm paying 400 /month to use this bike including the insurance.

Sorry for the really long story but you can imagine how I feel....

The bike is still under warranty it was bought last year sept 05.

I don't understand ....your friend driving a truck couldn't help?!?!?!

It's under warranty and they aren't going to pick it up for free and get it fixed in a reasonable time?!?!?

Sounds like your locals are a bit loco!!!!

sorry you're having a bad experience with your new bike. :(

my guess is the oil leak is from something like a bad oil change where the old gasket is still on the bike with the new one.. or something simple like that. probably not italian related.

but based on your comments on the towing charges and it seems like you are already regretting the purchase, my 2cents to your question is.. yes, go back to your R1.

if you bought it from a dealer, see if they can take the bike back or pay for the towing etc. they are legally obligated to not sell you junk. if you bought it from a private party, you may have been had. i hope in this case, there's nothing really wrong with the bike. maybe you can fight with the shop who did your pre-purchase inspection if you had one.

good luck!

Happy you are ok this could have been a lot worse. My 05 999 discharged its coolant this weekend. It will be going back to the dealer for the forth time now. Like you I was lucky not to have been injured. Keep us posted on what you find. I think mine is the head gasket at this point but my dealer has not picked up my bike yet.

Good Luck....

This is what the folks said to me.

Its a fault with the the Fuel Vapour head... (not sure about all this sounds to technical for me) anyway theres a fix for it that Ducati have its a known fault. They have ordered the kit and will be fixing it for me. He said its just a minor thing. I do hope Ducati will foot the bill for the 400$ towing I had to pay out my own pocket.
