998 with Full Carbon Fiber Body?

17675 Views 43 Replies 29 Participants Last post by  desmofetish
Do you think a 998 with ALL carbon fiber bodywork and tank would look nice? Or would it look better with it painted the ducati red but let it show the carbo accents??
I was thinking of going ALL carbon fiber on the body work. Opinions Please!!

Personally, I like the looks of carbon accents showing through (like on the 999R Xerox) where the fairings are painted, but you see the carbon poking thorugh. To me, that looks great. However, the standard red on the ducati, as sweet as it looks, is dime a dozen. Maybe talk to your paint guy and see if he can come up with sweet ideas to mix it up a bit. I will say that I think all carbon looks blah. Just my $0.02.

RaceComp carbon

If your carbon looks as good as this you would not paint it. All pre-preg auto clave cured best of the best.

Would you like to see some more of my artwork :)

My web site is www.racecomp.com.au
It's being updated very soon......

You're right. It is :)

And it's for sale if you're interested. But let me warn you. It isn't cheap.

Brand new CF/Kevlar tank and the finest paint you'll ever come by. On top of that I've placed 3M protective film.

And I just promised my wife I'd give our bank account a rest for a little while. Just for giggles how much do you want for it?
I work in the marine trades. U.V kills clear resins. Epoxy or poly/vinyl esters. After a while they become dull and fogged out, and with enough sun the resins break down. Paint and gelcoats are as much or more for uv protection, as they are for looks . I am not talking about a few hrs here or there, but like parking your bike in the lot at work, 30 days over the summer.
I did see a shot of a yellow and black sbk with I think just ducati name and cc's showing in Carbon. I think it was at california cycleworks, but I looked and could not find it. Anyhow, damn nicest looking bike I have seen, ever.

The equivalent of $1.650 :)

It may sound like a horrible price to you but the tank is brand new (only test-fitted to my bike) and I'm actually losing money on that deal. The paint job wasn't exactly free :(

No it isn't horrible but it isn't low enough to motivate me to be willing to listen to my wife complain about me buying it after I just told her I'd take a break. It is beautiful though

Here are some photos of my friends bike with my yellow baby in the back ;) ... it is completely CF'd, but I think tastefully painted, and still shows off a lot of CF...

Beautiful, IMHO

Hope there is a good one off heat shield for the gas tank!
A buddy of mine has a 996 with all carbon fiber from Ducati Performance. He originally thought that painting it similar to the Bostrom edition was a great idea. I thought when I do mine that I would just do the number boards in white. However after seeing the bikes beautiful carbon in the good light of the sun my buddy decided not to put an paint on it. and I can say that it is a bad thing. It looks awsome in my opinion. good luck I am sure you will love the look no matter what you go with.

I think exposed carbon looks great -> in moderation.

A few years ago I put some 998 style carbon fairings on my 99 748. All I did was stripe out some number plates and stripe the tank. Adding the stripes did help the thing look better but all that exposed carbon was overkill.

Since then I rebuilt the bike with some 996 style carbon fairings. This time I painted most of it; only exposing the carbon for logos and pinstriping. I left the majority of the tank exposed instead of the "typical" airbox and a strip across the top of the seat. This combination looks better IMO.
