I am restoring a 99 748 and have a question about painting the headlight. The OEM black paint on the back side of the housing is chipping and I'm curious if anyone might recommend what I should use to repaint that. It seems to be a thicker material and was thinking of maybe trying something like flex seal spray, but I don't know if that would work? Any suggestions??

Thanks!

There are glass etching paints that will do the trick. Virtually any paint will do. Even though most have a lack of adhesion it’s not a part that’s going to cop any abuse.

Definitely do not use Flex Seal.
As xracer said, get a decent black etching primer, and you are good to go. This thing is not going go see any abuse, and is barely even seen.

Cool! Thanks guys. I know it is barely seen, but I can see the front cowl behind it and it's messing with my OCD:) Haha

Now see, if you did it right, you would have CDO, where the letters in their proper alphabetical order. ?

Seriously, I am the same way. Does my heart well to see a classic Ducati in the hands of someone who is meticulous about them, and truly wants to do the job right. I am in the middle of a full on resto with my 748L, and can give you some seriously laughable "repair" stories with this bike.

Glad you understand!!;) I read the long thread about your 748 problems. Did you ever find out what the issue was?

Not yet..... hopefully going to find something this week, when I do the tank swap with my other 748. Unfortunately, I am recuperating from two fractured ribs, so lifting the tank is a little iffy right now. Hopefully it is something simple, and I get it going again soon.
