Yes I've searched. I understand that the early 916s have the P8 ecu unlike a majority of the superbikes. I'm having trouble finding if or which company makes chips for the earlier 916s. If none are available a Power Commander would certainly be okay with me, but if I was to order from the PC website, what model/year should I order to fit and have the correct base maps available? Thank you!

Thank you guys. The power commander seems pretty intriguing. FBF sells PowerCommander for 94-97 916 as the same piece so I guess it really doesn't matter the ecu?

Since the 996 has the same ecu, using the 916 P8 with a PC and correct map, would technically allow for the 996 engine to run in the 916 chassis then correct?.. aside from the dual injectors on the 996 (could you just use the 916 throttle bodies and injectors).

Big +100 on that..
We swapped a 999s engine into a 748R so it´s all doable. You can even put a 1098 engine in an early 748 if you want...

I actually read through the threads about putting a testastretta in the desmo chassis. Very interesting and congrats on doing so! The 916 frame isn't as accepting of the testa engine though (compared to the R or the SPS frame) from what I've come to understand, or I'd consider that a future option as well.

Everything is interchangeable as long as you have the proper fuel delivery and free time to fiddle with it. ;)

Biggest PITA for engine swaps is the charging system IMO.
Right... the three stage vs. two stage correct? There is no simple way around it or easy way to swap one for the other?

Easy answer is match donor bike to donor engine, i.e. keep 2-phase bikes 2-phase. Granted if you have mad skills and time you can upgrade a 2-phase to a 3-phase but I prefer not trying to ice-skate uphill... it's very tiring. ;)
Guess I have some more reading to do. Looks like FBF is the source for eproms and PCs for the P8 then. As far as the swap I'll keep searching for what exactly it takes.

At least a PC makes tuning either engine reasonable!
