I just bought a '93 SS-SL that came from sea level. I pulled the plugs because I wanted to check electrode color (bike has 41mm FCR Keihin flatslides and I am at 7200 MSL). Thought it might be running rich cuz of the alt diff. Threads on plugs were oily. What gives? NOrmal? Valve guides? Electrodes look gray, not rich.

Opinions?

The plugs have had grease put on the threads when fitted.
That's what i looks like to me.

Duh, I should have thought of that!

I wonder if there's a way to tell if it's grease, or oil?

But, you're probably right. I feel better, anyway.

The electrodes would be dark if oil, yeah?

Those babies looked nice and tanned to me. Any oil issues would have gummed up the electrode pretty good.
