Attempting to replace the fork oil on my 916, the front wheel is off and the fork legs are still clamped in the triple tree; preload is at minimum, as is damping.

I have the caps taped over but I'm at risk of marring them, they seem to be stuck tight so I'm looking for suggestions.

is the clamp screw on the top triple clamp loose?

they can be very tight first time around, or if someone has gone nuts previously. i prefer a long bar for the control.

No, should it be? I was assuming it was just the anodized part at the top, does it go down into the triple tree?

Ah, feck. Just looked at the diagram and it seems the joint is much further down?
