I took the front wiring harness off to move some things around including the coils which I relocated.
Im now getting this red light on dash, headlight doesnt come on, neutral light doesnt come on.
I was able to start the bike and it ran ok for 30 seconds or so until I shut it off. (i guess I connected the coils right. 50/50 chance and i nailed it LOL)

bike has a power commander.

Manual doesnt say anything about that light.

I presume you removed the bulbs from the dash.
If that is the case you have put them back into the wrong "holes"
Across the top the bulbs are marked 1, 2 and 3. I don't renumber if they were left to right or vice versa.
There definitely should not be a bulb in the red.
Easy to work out.
Headlight on low beam.
Key on - only bulb on should be neutral if there is fuel above the low fuel warning.
Put it into gear and the lamp that goes off is neutral - green.
Flick to high beam and the bulb that comes on is headlight - blue.
Signals - flashing that is the L/R green.
Final bulb is the low fuel warning - yellow.

Did not remove any bulbs. Never seen the red light on before. I removed the entire front rack with headlight and cluster. Just disconnected all the connectors. didnt cut anything. I put the rack back on without the headlight. When I turn on the key with no headlight I only get the red light and oil pressure light. When I reattached the headlight I get low fuel (which is probably correct) and the red light and oil pressure.

I think im going to disconnect everything and reconnect and make sure everything is tight and solid.

There should not be a bulb in the red. There is not on my 2001 900SSie.
I know because a week ago I did the same tests when the labels I put on each bulb cable faded.
Maybe do the tests I suggested, also signals.
Then go from there.

also any idea what this thing is. mounted under the cluster.
The red bulb is marked "4" on the cable number plastic thing.
And I may have lied. I did resplice the resistor I put in for led lights to clean it up when i had it apart. Im going to take that back off and see if I missed something. It was working previously but its possible I crossed something up.

That is the air temp sensor for the ECU to adjust fuelling for air temp.
It is not supposed to be hanging free.
I will have to look at a parts diagram to see where it is supposed to fit.

It mounts up under the cluster in that rubber thing. I just pulled it off for the picture. Thanks! Im tracing that red light. It goes red/white wire to the connector and then Orange wire on the other side of the connector.

ok im really stupid. I had two connectors mixed up. Red light off. Neutral light on. Everything alive. Sorry to waste your time.
Would still like to know what that red light does.

I checked the 1999 wiring diagram.
It shows a bulb there but when following back the green wire that is supposed to be there, it ends ups at connector without a corresponding wire going into that connector.
My 2001 wiring diagram shows a bulb but nothing connected.
Know there is no bulb in mine, so probably just the way Ducati drew the diagram.
Headlight assembly attached. You are looking for the component bottom RH corner.

it was the charge light when that light block was a 916/748 part with the ducati electronica voltage reg. when they went to the shindengan 3 phase reg it became redundant.
