Most riders find the 800 geared way too high, causing a lot of shudder at low rev acceleration and difficulty taking off.

I went up to 43 teeth on the back which was the cheapest and best modification I have made to the bike. MUCH smoother and easier to ride now.

Similar results can be achieved going down to 14 teeth on the front, but I could not find a sprocket that fit properly.
On the subject of teeth when you went up to 43 on the back, and it made the bike smoother and easier to ride, did you lose any preformance at the mid to high rpm range? And when you say smoother and eaiser is that refering to 1st gear because mine is extremely choppy in 1st unless over 3k rpms and the same with 2nd.

I just put a 14T front sprocket on my SS and it was a piece of cake. No need to change the chain too. It did require adjusting chain tension but I am sure that goes without saying. Word of caution, there are two small bolts holding the front sprocket on and they are unbelievably cheap. As I was putting them back in I snapped one with only couple ft pounds of torque. I have replaced with sturdier bolts now to say the least.

Easy mod with a big return on investment.
