Ok, After a long search on what I want to do and complete with my bike I have ran into some uncharted waters, or at least unsearchable.

I want to run an 848/1098 harness on my 748 for a couple of reasons, now hear me out.

1.Ecu on 848 is lighter and smaller than the 1.6
2. Compatiable with immobilizer and digital dash
3. and the biggest gain, Bigger aftermarket support , Wider tunabilitay range etc. PCV Support BAZZAZ support etc.

So my question is , has anyone done it?
Anyone know of roadblocks or why it wouldnt work?

I obviously have to use the igntion coils, dash , ecu, key's, speed sensors.
Is there any other sensors that are only on 848's 1098's ?

TPS , is also going to be tricky, the tps on the 848's is the same as all the testeresta engines, does any of those throttle bodies fit on a 748/996? hmmm

Researched more and found out that the 1198 and 848's harness are the same except for the DTC portion,
This is looking to be very promising

#OEM PART NUMBERS 848 / 748

Kickstand 539.1.022.2a / 539.1.023.1A

Rear Brake Switch 539.4.003.1B / 539.4.003.1B

Coolant Temp sensor 552.4.013.1A / 552.4.013.1A

Voltage Regulator 540.4.019.1A / 540.4.011.1C

Remote Switch 397.4.003.1B / 397.4.001.1A

Injectors 280.3.016.1A / 280.4.005.1A

Oil pressure sensor 539.4.030.2A / 539.4.030.1A

RPM/Timing Sensor 552.4.132.1B / 552.4.020.1A Might be a deciding Factor?
Diffrent Pickup areas' both on flywheel though hmmm.

Stator 264.4.052.3A / 264.4.014.3b Might be the same, 748's comes with cover so thats why it might be different.

I think the Fuel Pump's Work the same, have the same wiring connectors and i believe both run through the fuel levelers. (dont quote me on this)

Thanks for looking and helping.

Talking with a few people about the TPS sensor being put on the 748 engine, This I feel is the only roadblock, Will know for sure when I get an answer.

So, All tps' are the same IE the outputs not what they read , (from the people I talked to)

so, it might work. Im buying the harness tonight with/ ecu keys and sensors lets test this out.

I believe those who have put Testastretta motors into 916 bikes have run the M1.6 ECU, simply adapting the TPS harness to work with the newer style.

As such, I would imagine that you can modify the connector on the 848 harness to adapt the old style TPS connector. 5 minutes with a soldering iron and some shrink tube will sort that.

The rear brake can be modified to accept the late model caliper hangers that have the provision for the Speedo hall sensor as well which will avoid having to run a custom set up, as well as allow use of the larger rear brake disc.

I believe there is a thread in here regarding 848 rear disc swap onto a 916 bike which has detailed descriptions of all pieces needed, I think a Hypermotard hanger and 999 rear caliper were used....but don't quote me on that lol.

Thanks for the inputs, Ive seen people adapt the caliper bolt as a mounting point for the speedo sensor for the translogic speed sensor (same style sensor)so that was my route, but if I can get a factory type install I would love that, im going to research it right now matter of a fact.

So the only thing im unsure about now, is the timing sensors being off pattern or wavelengths and the fuel gauge and pump wiring.

I have to be honest, that seems like a lot of work to just swap out the harness. IF you are doing all that, why not upgrade the engine to a 1098 or 1198? I have a 2000 748R and have been toying with the idea of an 1198 engine swap to make a track day smile machine, haha.
