Anyone out there running a CF tank on a 1098 Gen bike? Just curious if they're hard to mount/ leaky/ expandy/ explody..? Sounds like it would be worth it just for the extra range (claims that you get 4.9 Gal vs the Stock 4). Any experience, good OR bad would be appreciated. Thanks! :abduct:

I have a furbur carbon tank on my 999 and love it! I can get about 4.5 gal of gas in it and the quality is great. I did have a leak around the seam that goes around the bottom front portion of the tank, but I coated it with caswells "dragons blood" and it's solid now. If you get a carbon tank of any brand I would seal it with caswells before you install it.
Damn brand new one already sealed sold last night on Ebay for $800! That's a steal and I missed as ebay refresh screwed me in the last 10 seconds!

Too funny... Watched it go. Got too rich for my blood past $600! I see 'em for $800 from time to time. Just couldn't bring myself to throw down any more than that, since getting it shot pearl white (with show-through carbon Ducati on the side in place of the decal) would have run me a pretty penny too.

Well another day guys, I'm really just looking for the range. The 105 I'm filling up at is humiliating!
Be careful, carbon tanks are made with the same resins that glass tanks are made from (each manufacturer has a choice of many types of epoxies).
And, as far as I know they are all susceptible in some form to degradation from today's fuels.

At least a plastic OEM tank won't melt and fill your injectors/ head/ cylinders with goo.

A well done coating with caswell will be mandatory (IMO) for any carbon tank.
I.. was under the impression that Ducati Performance didn't make "pure" CF tanks anymore. They take a stock metal tank and apply CF to the outside.....I saw a few F/S at BursiEvo.....not sure if they are fully carbon or carbon coated type.

Yeah I've heard that there are those types of tanks out there. If I were after the carbon look and didn't care how much it weighed a carbon/metal tank would be my first choice.

The one we VVV are speaking of was coated.

The coating alone done by the manufacurer on that tank probably cost half what it sold for. IMO a steal, friggin Ebay!

eBay didn't screw you......;)

Looking forward to receive it....by the way sorry......For your lost :p
Cool. Thanks everyone... sounds like I'll have to put my dream of riding longer than 110 miles without stopping for gas on hold. Talked to a friend of mine who works for DNA and he confirmed there isn't a DP CF tank out there for our gen of bikes right now. The search continues!
I know how you fell on a 350 km run I need to stop 3 times for fuel. I wasn't planning to buy a new tank hell my bike is pretty much new and I wanted to spend my money on the suspension but I couldn't pass this tank, suspension will have to wait a little bit....:D
