Hi,

I have a problem with my 2003 749. When the bike idles and engine temperature goes over 100 celcius (210 fahrenheit) the bike lights up engine light and the idle drops around 500rpm's to just bit over 1000rpm's.

When the fans kick in and the temp goes to around 98 or 99 the problem disappears but comes back when the temp creeps up again.

Additionally also when I rev the bike quickly the revs stay up for a bit and then lows back really slowly to idle. Sometimes when I'm in the lights the idle is really uneven, it's going up and down by 300-500 rpm's.

Any ideas where to start solving the problem or similar experiences?

It may be that your regulator is going bad based on a similar experience with my own bike. Did you observe the voltage display changing when the engine light came on? You might see the voltage alternately display "15V" and "HI". If so, then most likely a regulator issue. I don't recall changing rpm's when I experienced the hi-temp/check engine issue. That may be specific to your bike, perhaps a regulator/ECU temperature depended issue.
