748 fuel pump flange differences

Yes, another post from me ...

As mentioned in another post, I bought a new (to me) used fuel pump flange for my 748S because I did realize the original one has tapered pipe thread and messed up the threads. However, when I tried to thread the quick disconnect fitting into the flange, it didn't fit. Is the fuel line thread for banjo-bolt style fuel lines different from the quick disconnect ones and I got the wrong kind of fuel pump flange?

What quick disconnect fittings did you buy? The ones from Colder?
as far as i know, yes. the banjo bolt is a straight, finer thread.
+1 my 2002 748S has the stupid banjo bolt nipples and I have had to make do with them for the same reason you are now encountering.

I have a 2002 748s as well but the previous owner installed quick disconnect. I have never seen a Ducati fuel pump base with a banjo bolt fuel line.

Gotham. Their site says they are 1/4" NPT. Would tapping the banjo bolt thread to 1/4" NPT work?

As I mentioned in other posts about my tank woes, my first 748S, a 2002, had quick disconnects and I don't recall any issues swapping in metal ones.
find out what thread is on the banjos and see if cpc make them with that thread.

there's only two from ducati - 1/4 npt and the other one.
I found this post in a thread from 2007:

"The threads on the bottom of the 748 pump housings with banjo fittings will not take the QD's unless modified. I was able to do it to mine with no problems. All you need to do is run a 1/4 NPT tap into the holes. No drilling is needed. I recommend taking everything off of the housing before you do this because you will make some metal shavings. It took me about an hour to do the whole project and has saved more than that over the last few years."

The banjo bolt versions are from the 748E model NOT a 748 base, R or "S" model.
could possibly be from a ST model iirc.

Ebay is your friend if you have a bike with banjo fittings simply buy the QD flange and be done with it.
If you have a bike that you bought used and it has banjo fittings you might look closer to see if you have a 748E that has been upgraded and sold as something else. Tonts of E models get Dzus fasteners and Qd tank mounts but none get adjustable steering heads without a frame change.

Thank you! Explains why I have never seen a flange with banjo bolt fitting. I wonder why Ducati did that? Extra parts laying around they needed to use?
I can tell you it made zero sense to us as well, to make a new bottom of the line model they.....
made a new frame
added 2 new parts that were not used elsewhere for the fairings
created a new fuel pump flange and piping plus banjo bolts.

So you have to imagine it cost them extra to make a bike that they sold for less.

That said it stole sales from the supersport line as at the time you were only about $1000 different in price for a "superbike" vs the 900ss. Might have been the plan to see if they could kill off the line.
different part to st - they have a different wiring system.

it really does make no sense. i expect $1 cost saved probably accounts to a $10 difference in new bike price, but even at that the four fittings from cpc couldn't have cost that much more. and they were such a pita to pull the tank.

I thought that I was getting a QD flange when I bought it via ebay.

I picked up a 1/4" NPT tap today and found that tapping the threads to that of the QD fittings is straightforward.
