I was wondering if anyone has seen a tab break off their clutch basket before? My brother-in-law noticed the paint on his clutch cover was baked, the cover was broken and when he got the cover off a tab was broken off.

People he has talked to said it could be from clutchless upshifting, but the clutch is not used during this process. Anyway, he is looking for answers as to why it happened and I can not give him any. I thought maybe someone here would have more knowledge on the subject.

it could just one of things that happen or not.
does he do wheelies? how hard is he on and off the gas? how hard is he on and off the clucth? popping clutches to do wheelies can cause all sorts of things to break.

No wheelies at all. However, the previous owner did wheelies (I think). He uses the bike primarily on the track

There's your answer. You can't expect stock parts to last forever on the track....

By the looks of that clutch cover, the bike has been dropped on it as well. Abused Ducati's break parts.
