Had a good run on sunday, the bike was faultless. so here's my stupid question. How much mechanical engine noise should there be, all my other bikes have been jap 4 cylinders which seemed quiet compared to my first ducati @ 3200 miles.
I wont be offended by any answer.
cheers.
Neil.

If you want to get rid of some of the noise go with a aluminum basket with aluminum friction plates. I think this has been a standard for the 999 series for a while. I did it to my 996 and not only did it take weight down off the crank, it made it a heck of a lot less noisy.

enough to make me wonder, every time i ride, "what was that noise." that's coming from a commuter/ track bike.

it makes lots of noise. not a stupid question.

i got a '99 748 mono and yeah, it makes a lot of noise, i just had mine serviced too (within 200 miles) and it still makes a lot of racket, but its all worth it when your hauling ass in the powerband
