I have a M600 and a M900 in the garage.

Recently whilct getting new rubber put on the 600 i ftted my spare 900 rim to keep the bike movable (5.5J rim with a 170 tyre).

It went straight in no problem.

personally i would stick with the 160, handles better by far which is also why i dont run a 180 on the m900.

With the 170 on the 5.5 rim do you ever have trouble running off the edge of the tire?

my 900 has a 180 rear on the stock wheel, the profile looks good but you really have to finesse it around a tight curve to get the bike to lean. i can use the whole rear tire but the front still had really wide strips, almost an inch and half wide. next tire will be the stock 170, which should be coming soon... i live in florida
