So replacing the starter in a '96 supersport 900 engine-

I've got a new gasket, but was wondering if I should augment that with some 3-bond etc?

And if so, where/what edges should I put the bead of 3-bond?

Thanks----

What kind of gasket did you get, the (newer) profiled sheet metal one or the (old) paper gasket?

With both I would think it is a good idea to add some Threebond selant on both sides, around the large motor opening and also around the bolt holes because at least one of the bolts goes inside the engine case where it can and will see hot oil.

Especially the profiled metal gaskets require perfect sealing surfaces to function properly which may no longer be the case with your "old dog"...

Yep, mine developed a very slight weep from this spot because it had no sealant on the metal gasket.

Gracias...

Last time I swapped out a starter I just used the plain gasket (ridged metal one). And never had a problem... But as I was looking at the bolts exposed in the side case this time, I'm not sure how it never leaked....

I'll whack it with some 3-bond, thanks for the beta-
