I have this issue on my 2015 that's always been an annoyance and I was thinking of getting the dealer to troubleshoot it, but wanted to get some opinions

Symptoms:
  1. Somtimes when my engine is hot and while I'm stopped with the clutch lever all the way in, the RPMs will surge to over 2000 RPM then drop to the first line of the tachometer. Sometimes she'll stall when this happens. I could ride to the next stop light and she might idle just fine.
  2. Sometimes she'll stall while I'm coasting in slow traffic with the clutch lever all the way in and the throttle closed.

Anyone have any ideas what might cause this? Since the throttle is fly by wire and the idle is controleld by the computer, I'm not sure I should bother paying what is at least an hour labor for them to troubleshoot.

TIA

Sounds like an air leak in the intake. Did you remove the emissions canister and plug the lines?

Dirty air or fuel filters, perhaps.

I have had the emissions canister off since I picked her up. Maybe a plug fell out. I will double check that.

Thanks!

Yep, that could be it. I had a R1100S years ago as my touring bike and after I took the canister off it would do just what you described. Found that I had not plugged one of the lines.

Does that model have an idle air control valve?
Could be sticking or playing up.
Narrowband O2 sensor?

I had similar symptoms when the tps was failing too... something to have checked if it's not a vac leak.

I have the same problem with my MTS 1200S 2015, engine runs idling normally after starting, however, when engine get warm to operating temperature it could not run idling. When stopping at traffic red light engine jerking and stalling for about ten seconds then off. DDS checked and reported no fault. I do not know why it happens like this, seem that engine controlling issue and need to be updated or reprogramed? I would appreciate if anyone of you could advise what need to be done to fix this problem. Thank you.
